Volunteer With Habitat
Everyone has something to contribute to Habitat’s mission, even if you have no construction experience. Whether you’re hauling lumber, sorting donations at the ReStore, or rallying for a group volunteer day, there are many ways to build with Habitat.

Everyone is Welcome
At Habitat Dutchess, volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do. Together, we’re building first-time homeownership opportunities, safer living conditions, and stronger communities one day, one helping hand at a time.
No experience? No problem. You’ll get trained on-site. What we need most is your energy, your enthusiasm, and a few hours of your time.
Many Ways to Build

Construction & Home Repair
Build homes. Build skills. Build community. No construction experience needed. Our skilled crew leads will show you how.

ReStore Volunteer
Help fund homes at the ReStore. Stock shelves, organize donations, greet customers, or help with pricing. Flexible shifts and a fun atmosphere.

Group Volunteering
Whether you are a business, school group, or faith group, volunteering with Habitat builds teamwork, pride, and purpose while moving our mission forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
- ReStore volunteers must be at least 14 years old.
- Construction volunteers must be 16 or older (with a guardian’s permission if under 18).
- Group leaders must be 18+.
We love welcoming youth volunteers, but there are some safety limits based on age and activity.
Do I need construction experience?
Nope. Most volunteers have never swung a hammer before. We’ll teach you everything you need to know and make sure you feel confident and safe on the job.
What should I wear or bring?
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes (boots are great if you have them). We provide tools, gloves, and safety gear. Bring a refillable water bottle and your can-do attitude.
Can I volunteer with a group?
Absolutely. We welcome schools, businesses, clubs, and community groups. You can sign up together or reach out to schedule a dedicated group day.
I want to help, but I’m not sure I can do physical work. Can I still volunteer?
Yes! There are plenty of ways to help that don’t require heavy lifting — like assisting at our ReStore, supporting events, or helping with outreach.
Is there a time commitment?
You can volunteer for a single shift or come back every week. It’s up to you. Some folks pitch in once a month; others jump in a few times a year. Every hour counts.
