As we mark our 40th anniversary, we will celebrate the families, volunteers, donors, and community partners who have helped build stronger neighborhoods over the past four decades, and look ahead to an ambitious future. In the coming year, Habitat Dutchess will build seven new affordable homes, expand critical repairs that help older adults age safely in place, and open more pathways to homeownership through our free Homebuying University.

Golden Hammer

The Golden Hammer Award recognizes organizations whose leadership, partnership, and commitment have deeply strengthened Habitat’s mission of building homes, communities, and hope.

Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County is proud to honor Marist University in recognition of a partnership that has spanned decades and helped transform the lives of local families. Through the dedication of its students, faculty, and staff, Marist has contributed thousands of volunteer hours to Habitat build and repair projects across Dutchess County, helping create safe, stable, and affordable housing opportunities for those who need them most.

From the passion and service of the Marist Habitat for Humanity student club to the ongoing engagement of faculty and staff volunteers, the university has demonstrated a deep commitment to strengthening our community. Marist’s longstanding support has not only helped build and preserve homes—it has helped build brighter futures for families throughout the Hudson Valley.

Heart of Habitat

The Heart of Habitat Award recognizes an individual whose leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission has made a lasting impact on families throughout our community.

Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County is proud to recognize George Kontogiannis of GKontos Roofing & Exterior Specialists for outstanding partnership and generous support of our Home Repair Program, which serves more than 40 households annually across Dutchess and Putnam Counties. Through the support of George and GKontos Roofing & Exterior Specialists, Habitat Dutchess has expanded its Critical Home Repair Program to include roof repairs and roof replacements, allowing Habitat to address a broader range of critical home preservation needs, helping vulnerable local homeowners remain safe and secure in their homes.

George’s leadership, dedication to community service, and commitment to improving the lives of others exemplify the spirit of the Heart of Habitat Award. His generosity has strengthened our ability to serve families in need and has made a meaningful and lasting difference throughout our community.
