In 1985 the United Nations designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. The idea is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat. Since 1986 Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County has built 33 homes to provide a safe and financially sustainable place for families to call their own. Along with the help of our valued volunteers and community partners, we have made more than 130 critical repairs and improvements for local homeowners, helping them to preserve their homes. Habitat believes that we’re stronger together, and that’s why we partner with local organizations to provide resources and outreach that assisteligible applicants in the home buying process and home maintenance and upkeep.
