These positions are both 48 weeks long and are located in Dutchess County NY

Service length

  • AmeriCorps National
    A complete term of service lasts 46.5 weeks or approximately 10.5 months following a completion of 1,700 service hours.
  • AmeriCorps VISTA
    A complete term of service lasts one year, where you typically serve about 40 hours each week.

Volunteer Coordinator Service Position Description

Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps- help strengthen communities through a year of service

Through full-time service opportunities in communities across the US, Habitat AmeriCorps program members help homeowners achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.  Build your skills in leadership, management, community service and gain non-profit experience.

Overview: For this 10.5 month Full-Time AmeriCorps position, the member will receive a modest living allowance, an education award and valuable professional experience serving Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County.

Reports to: Jen Radicone, Operations Manager

Position Type: Volunteer Coordinator

Position Description: The member will assist the Habitat Dutchess team to recruit, train, schedule and recognize volunteers while growing the volunteer base and advancing individual and group partnerships.  This position requires personal transportation.  Public Transportation is limited.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with volunteer management including orientation, maintenance of data base, volunteer tracking and follow-up opportunities in construction, office work, ReStore, homeowner services, special events and more.
  • Develop and implement recruitment messaging and materials
  • Visit build site to observe and understand of tasks in which volunteers are asked to participate
  • Schedule and communicate affiliate needs with assigned individual volunteers and groups
  • Assist in coordination of campus chapter groups
  • Improve volunteer resource database
  • Plan and execute the annual volunteer banquet
  • Attend community outreach programs to promote volunteer opportunities
  • Strengthen and develop existing and new partnerships with community

Benefits:

  • Education Award of $6,195
  • Possible forbearance or deferment of qualified student loans
  • Health Care Benefit- Affordable Care Act Compliant Plan
  • 10 Personal/Medical Leave days
  • Access to more than 600 employers who are part of the Employers of National Service (upon completion of program)
  • Possible housing option
  • Monthly Stipend $50 per month and access to St Martin’s food pantry last Sunday of each Month

Construction Crew Leader Service Position Description

Position Type: Construction Crew Leader

Position Description: The member will assist the Habitat Dutchess team to manage and develop groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families on the build sites, all while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment.  Personal vehicle required. Public transportation is limited.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with hands on construction tasks including, but not limited to; demolition,site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping. Projects may include new and gut rehab homes as well as A Brush with Kindness, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small group of volunteers ensuring they are well-employed while on the work sites
  • Use volunteer management techniques to facilitate positive experiences for volunteers and homeowner families working on site.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify skilled, enthusiastic volunteers, cultivating their involvement in Habitat’s work.
  • Maintain site safety
  • Help manage materials on site
  • Set up and clean up prject sites
  • Participate in planning and debriefing as needed
